Using the Academic Assistant Grant Program

Yesterday (July 15, 2021), a heavy rain warning was issued in Ikoma City and elementary schools were closed, so I could not come to the university because I could not leave my younger children at home. Also, last month my children got sick one after another (norovirus) and I had to take a week off.

These are only a few examples. It often happens that planned experiments cannot be done on short notice. Even if it is not a full day off, we often get a call from the kindergarten or elementary school asking us to pick up our child from school (early dismissal) due to illness or injury. Since my husband works alone and I am the only one who has to deal with unforeseen situations, the burden is inevitably heavy on me.

In these unpredictable situations, the academic assistants are very helpful, because I can just email the university from home and the experiment will continue.

In my experiments with mice, I have to administer drugs by injection for about a month in a row and check the health of the mice with instruments every day. If I fail to administer the drug for even one day during the experiment, all the work I have done up to that point will be in vain, and the experiment will be terminated. With small children, it is often difficult for them to come to the university, but with the help of the academic assistants, the experiments are never stopped. I am very grateful for their help.
